If people are going to be feisty maybe after the jump...
Mans was cruising around the 15th ward of New Orleans with a confederate flag sticker. If y’all don’t know about the Algiers neighborhood, it’s 90% African American, is very poor and riddled with gun violence. When I was a child my family lived there for a while. I’d totally move back though because New Orleans is the best city in the country. (Not debatable)
I’ll keep my personal politics out of it, either way I would not recommend driving around New Orleans in particular with a confederate flag sticker on your truck. Unless it’s a Mississippi flag.

Agreed on all points, including New Orleans as the best city. It’s been forever since I’ve been back, I heard some things have changed. When I was at Tulane, you didn’t cross Rampart towards loius Armstrong park. Now that’s a nice neighborhood?

As far as I’m concerned, crossing into bad neighborhoods is part of the experience. Especially considering how integrated the good and bad neighborhoods are.

I saw a toyota highlander with the following bumper stickers: “BANGUNS” and “If science is too hard try religion”.
Mind you this is Kalispell MT, one of the most white, gun toting, christian areas the country.

Treme, Bywater, and the Marigny have all be gentrified. Frenchman, which was incredible a decade+ ago, is now as popular as Decatur and Bourbon. All the good shit is now in Mid-City. I still love Algiers Point, though. Grab a Bloody Mary at Old Point and walk the levee til you hit Crown & Anchor. Spend the rest of your day drinking there.

Racists have a target on their backs wherever they roam. They should be afraid of driving through any neighborhood.

Agreed, but there’s a time and place. Drunk at the Funky Butt wasn’t it.

I graduated 2004, and yeah, Frenchman was amazing when we discovered it. I’ll have to explore when my wife and I go back. We’re due for a trip for our ten year anniversary.

As my senior pastor once pointed out, when he was in high school he had a confederate sticker (South Carolina, the 90s, Chevy Corsica — bascially standard equipment.)
Then one of his own pastors, a younger black man who had just joined the church, saw him and said “I noticed your bumper sticker” and just kept walking.
He said that was his big wake up call that what you do (often mindlessly) can have serious repercussions when they’re interpreted differently by others. And this was long before the current batch of co-opting of the flag by supremacist groups.
In short: Don’t be a dick. Just like wearing t-shirts with expletives on them. You might think you’re stirring the pot or being edgy, but odds are you’re just an asshole in denial.

That second bumper sticker is gold. Unfortunately I teach science at a religious school...

Some people don’t see it that way. A lot of people don’t see it that way. Everybody who has a confederate flag isn’t a racist. I personally don’t have anything with a confederate flag on it besides a Mississippi flag.

It’s a great place, ever since the Fischer Projects were torn down it changed the character a bit though.

I know a lot of guys who care about it, and some who don’t. Just depends on the person.

My African-American neighbor flies a giant Confederate flag from his deck, pretty much all the time. I can pretty much guarantee you he’s not intending it to be racist against Black people at all. I don’t know what he is intending it to be, but almost certainly not that. I decided quite a while ago to just not say anything about it, and I’m moving in a month anyway.

Some people take pride in their heritage or see it as something they can learn from. Probably how your neighbor feels.
